Several local organizations who are recipients of this aid include FISH of Clarke County, Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging (SAAA), Congregational Community Action Project (CCAP), Highland Food Pantry, and the Olive Branch affiliated with Victory Church.
CCAP’s Baby and Toddler Room, founded by the Ministry nearly 8 years ago, serves approximately 90 families per month with clothing, diapers, and wipes. This is only one of the above mentioned agencies that assist families with babies. Government assistance and/or low wage jobs are often insufficient means to meet the basic needs of a family. Diapers are the fourth largest expense for parents after rent, food, and utilities.
As the Baby Boomer generation ages, the number of individuals living on fixed incomes has also increased. Today, as many as 15 percent over the age of 65 suffer from a medical condition known as incontinence. Having to purchase products to remedy this concern can further burden already strained finances. The non-profit SAAA was formed to sustain older persons with support services to help them continue to live in their own homes.
